About this site
Seattle.blogmob.org is a portal for weblogs located in and around Seattle,
Washington. It has both a list and a map of Seattle weblogs, and uses
both TrackBack and
RSS
to aggregate posts from these weblogs. (To keep up with site updates, see
the Site News page.)
- A weblog (or often just "blog" for short, as in the name of this
site) is a frequently updated web page made up of typically short posts
in reverse chronological order, usually with links to cool and interesting
finds on the Net, or diary entries about someone's life, or often, a
little of both.
For more information, see the essay weblogs: a
history and perspective from Rebecca Blood, Seattle
expatriate and author of The
Weblog Handbook
; or Anatomy of a
Weblog, by Cameron Barrett; or read what several webloggers had to say
about blogging at powazek.com.
- Founded in 1869, Seattle is located on the
shores of on Puget Sound, just 113 miles from the Canadian border. We're
surrounded by mountains and water and trees, with gorgeous views
everywhere you look. People claim it rains all the time here, but we
actually have a mild climate, with an average yearly rainfall of just 36.2
inches.
It's a major port city for Pacific and European markets; we've
also been a center of Internet commerce and development, being home to
companies like Amazon and Microsoft. Half a million people live here, and
we've got great restaurants, shops, museums, theaters, zoos, all kinds of outdoor
recreation, and more.
Who can be listed on this site?
Anybody in the Seattle area who has a weblog. No
quibbling about what really constitutes a "weblog" -- the definition
above is pretty fast and loose, and if you consider your
site a weblog, that's good enough for us. And you don't need to be
running any particular weblog software, list your site on GeoURL, ping weblogs.com, provide an RSS feed -- or
even know what any of that stuff means -- to be listed here.
(That said, though -- we're not really looking to list LiveJournal pages here. Nothing
against LiveJournals, mind you, but there are just so many of them that
listing them here would be beyond the scope of this site. For a listing
of Seattle LiveJournals, visit this directory.)
